A note on Rubber:
We stock a number of different rubbers and the two questions we get most often is, Which one is best? and Which lasts the longest? There is no short answer to these, but we will try and help you figure it out. All of our rubber is 4mm thick. Sometimes we do stock 5mm edge. Best to email us to find out if its in stock.
Vibram makes two kinds of climbing rubber, Edge and Grip. Edge does not deform easily and wears slowly. It is great at holding, you guessed it, an edge! It is found commonly on flat lasted shoes like the Sportiva TC Pro. On the other hand, Grip deforms easily and wears quickly. Great for gripping deformities in the rock. It is found commonly on downturned shoes like the Sportiva Solution.
We recently switched from Five Ten stealth to a new company, called Unparrallel Sports, based in Redlands, CA. This was a hard choice that we thought a lot about, especially given the deep commitment some people have to Five Ten Stealth. Yet, we feel that this rubber performs equally or even excels over the current version of Stealth. The folks that started Unparrallel have years of climbing shoe manufacturing and have chosen this compound specifically. They call their rubber RH. It has great grip, good wear for all your climbing endeavors. This is a great option for people who love the old Stealth.
When you have doubts about rubber or you find this explanation lacking in some way, shoot us an email at info@type2repairs.com!
